Who is this event for?

We welcome participants of all backgrounds and expertise levels from around the world to apply and attend. Creativity and exploration are at the heart of the hackathon and we're looking to create a diverse and inclusive space to let you flourish. We value the unique perspective you bring so whether you're a designer, developer, product manager, or cartoon artist, we're excited for you to join us!

What if I don’t have any relevant experience?

You may have relevant experience even if you've never done a VR/AR project before! A successful team requires not just programmers and animators, but can also include designers and artists for 3D, graphics, user experience, and sound, in addition to project managers, and sometimes even entrepreneurs. If any of this is up your alley, please apply!

Can I form a team prior to the event?

You cannot apply as a team. Individuals apply to participate in Reality Hack, and must then form teams with other accepted participants. Teams form through the Reality Hack team formation process. We want participants to make new connections organically, with cool creative people that they’ve never met before.

When and where will the event take place?

MIT Reality Hack will take place in person on January 25-29, 2024 at MIT in Cambridge, MA, USA. There will be no online or remote participation option.

When do applications open and close?

Applications to hack at MIT Reality Hack 2024 are now closed.

Will you be requiring participants to be vaccinated for COVID-19?

We will follow all relevant health advice and guidance as directed by MIT.

Is there a fee to apply or to participate?

There is no fee to apply or to participate. However, all accepted participants must secure their own travel and accommodations for the duration of the event.

Do you offer any travel support?

For Hackers, you’ll be able to submit a travel scholarship application after you RSVP to the event.

Will food and accommodations be provided?

We will serve the majority, but not all, of meals during the duration of the event.

Participants are responsible for securing their travel to and from Boston as well as their accommodations.

What steps are being taken to keep people, equipment, and the venue clean and safe?

We will follow all relevant health advice and guidance as directed by MIT.

How can I get involved with helping out in organizing the event?
