What is MIT Reality Hack?

The MIT Reality Hack is a community-driven XR hackathon, co-hosted by volunteers and the Reality Hack Organization 501-c3, along with the student organization VR/AR@MIT. It aims to educate and empower individuals to engage in the XR industry, offering presentations, tech workshops, and networking opportunities for participants with diverse backgrounds.
The event focuses on fostering creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, promoting an inclusive culture that values accessibility, diversity, and open-source creation. Emphasizing a positive and safe environment, the Reality Hack provides a platform for exploring the potential of spatial computing through a five-day collaborative experience.

Embodying MIT’s spirit of Mens et Manus, organizers seek to propel XR technology towards a maximally positive role in society while facilitating an impactful experience where participants learn, create, and connect.

Connection

Introducing

THE REALITY FORUM INITIATIVE

By Maria Rice Published Jan 10, 2024

LET’S GET REAL

It’s tempting to embrace this year’s theme of Connection by looking within our incredible community for their sincere, albeit effusive, reflections about our annual XR hackathon at MIT….

"This hackathon changed my life." - Past Hacker

"It's the perfect spirit for creative collaboration." - Past Mentor

"...one of the most innovative events in modern history." - Past Mentor

"...my favorite XR industry event." - Past Sponsor

Perhaps it seems that we in the XR space have often dealt in the currency of passionate enthusiasm.

Assuming, for the moment, that this were the case: how might we dispense this currency toward the greater good of society and a sustainable future?

So we looked without, in consideration of unerring inclusion, as the currency of enthusiasm would need to be backed by the standard of value and impact while mediated by voices of integrity and truth.

To this end, the Reality Forum Initiative aims to establish a connection between dreams and means while engaging in authentic conversation about the opportunities and challenges for XR startups and technology in today’s economic climate.

With the rapid evolution of XR and the advent of a new generation of AI technology, there has never been a more exciting or opportune moment to take part.
